RISK PLATFORMS ENGINEER #RPE-092026
We are seeking a Risk Platforms Engineer to support and enhance our Risk Platforms and Technologies Unit.
About the Team
The Risk Platforms and Technologies unit owns the technical backbone of our anti-fraud and risk ecosystem. We are the team that keeps the platforms that rules run on fast, available, correctly configured, and properly integrated.
Our core platform is IBM Safer Payments, powering real-time decisioning across card authorization, 3DS, device intelligence, digital channel intelligence, and instant payments. If you like the idea of being the engineering backbone behind mission-critical fraud defense — without owning the fraud strategy itself — this is your team.
The Role
We're looking for a mid-level, hands-on engineer to join the team responsible for the technical health of our anti-fraud platform estate. You'll work directly in IBM Safer Payments and its surrounding integrations: configuring mandators, maintaining data mappings, managing batch jobs, monitoring capacity and performance, and supporting the architecture that ties together our risk data sources.
This is a technical execution role — you'll make sure the platform runs correctly, scales properly, and integrates cleanly with everything upstream and downstream of it.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Configuration & Architecture
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Risk Management Platforms (RMP) across mandators, hierarchies, indices, attributes, and detection-stage logic
- Participate in platform architecture decisions — versioning, upgrades, environment topology, and technical integration patterns
Performance & Monitoring
- Monitor platform capacity, sizing, and performance, including index freshness, batch job health, and node-level resource usage
- Support platform monitoring and alerting setup — flag rules, notification routing, operational dashboards
Integration & Data
- Support the integration with card authorization systems, 3D Secure, device intelligence providers, and PSPs
- Own and maintain data mappings between RMP and upstream/downstream systems
- Design, schedule, and troubleshoot batch jobs — master data loads, FX/reference data feeds, index refreshes
Operational Excellence
- Maintain accurate technical documentation for configurations, mappings, integrations, and operational procedures
- Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis when platform or integration issues arise
- Collaborate with risk analysts and rule owners, translating their requirements into correct technical configuration — without owning the rule logic itself
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in payments, fraud prevention, or risk technology environments
- Direct working experience with real-time decisioning/rules platform (IBM Safer Payments or a comparable)
- Understanding of card transaction flows, authorization messaging, and related standards
- Familiarity with 3DS, device/digital channel intelligence integrations, or payments infrastructure
- Experience designing and troubleshooting batch jobs, and mapping data between systems
- Strong documentation habits
- A troubleshooting mindset: comfortable digging through logs, tracing message flows, and diagnosing integration issues end-to-end
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, enabling effective engagement with cross-functional teams in the organization
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality when working with business-critical systems and data-driven processes
- Professional proficiency in English (written and spoken)
Nice to Have
- Experience with IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) or similar integration middleware
- Exposure to ISO 8583 adapter services or payment messaging layers
- Scripting experience (Python/ Bash/ PowerShell) for operational tooling, log analysis, or automation
- Familiarity with self-learning/ML model components (training, scoring, model refresh cycles)
- Experience designing platform monitoring/alerting rules
- Background in banking or financial services technology environments
